From our first email introduction we knew we would like Margarita and Clayton and sure enough when we first met we really enjoyed their energy and their good nature. Margarita and Clayton both have a warm and welcoming manner, they both share a love for adventure, the outdoors and do their best to make conscious decisions about their life that better the planet and people. These are all things that matter a lot to us at Willhouse. Good-hearted people living their best life.
Speaking of living out your best life, they certainly made a grand entrance into marriage with an epic wedding weekend. It all started with a sunset dinner on a boat, wedding ceremony on a cliff, reception in a greenhouse, an after party at the Goodland and a pool party the next day. The wedding venue is one of our favorite locations in California, Dos Pueblos Orchid Farm is a combination of rustic elegance mixed with bohemian living and there is just a lot to discover at this magical place nestled between the mountains and the sea. Margarita and Clayton selected wonderful vendors from local beer such as Topa Topa and coffee by Dart Coffee, live cocktail hour music by The Wrinkled Teenagers, gorgeous blooms and greens from the Clayton’s step-father, handwritten Magnolia leaves escort cards from Sophia Loves Letters, vintage decor by Milk and Honey and my favorite planner team Swoon Ca. It all came together so lovely and we were both so overwhelmed with joy to see Margarita and Clayton having the best time.
We are very thankful we met these two people and look forward to our friendship growing.
Congrats to Margarita and Clayton!
We knew we would like these two a lot! Sure enough we had such a wonderful time photographing their wedding celebration. Justin and Michael are adorable, fun and have a great love for their friends and family. Repeatedly, they shared with us how much their community meant to them and it was certainly expressed on their wedding day.
The wedding was at the Rancho Buena Vista Adobe in Vista, California a small town in San Diego County. The adobe was beautiful and lush with spring colors and bright greens. On top of all the beautiful foliage, Justin and Michael had the talented Forage Florals sharing her scrumptious bouquets, centerpieces and boutonnieres. The weather was fantastic in true San Diego fashion and was a bright, sunny day.
Throughout the day there were tears of joys, heartfelt speeches, great dancing and lots of pride and joy for Michael and Justin. We wish our new friends many many healthy and happy years of marriage bliss.
It feels like it has been raining everyday here in California, so when there was a sunny day Paige of House of Ginger and I roamed the streets to take photos in her beautiful leopard Zara coat. After this photo shoot I am determined to find a leopard coat. Of course, Paige makes everything look so good!
Spent an early Sunday morning in Ojai, Ca taking photos of this cute soon-to-be two year old. Maude was not feeling the early morning (I feel ya Maude) but she was soon into picking flowers and a big tickle fest.
Nestled in a forrest of trees on a warm September day, Max and Andrea said their vows amongst their beloved family members and friends. The weekend began with a welcome dinner at a restaurant in the heart of Los Gatos. Los Gatos is the hometown of the groom Max, in fact the wedding location was his family home.
Max and Andrea both got ready off-site at a nearby hotel, where the majority of the guests stayed. The wedding party headed to Morse manor for the ceremony. The ceremony was beautiful, surrounded by ferns, various bright green trees with an arbor draped in fabric and succulents. The guest were greeted with cocktails and popcorn, which I must say is a great touch. As the piano began to play the wedding party lined up for the processional. The vows were endearing, funny and deeply thoughtful.
A fun side-note in this story: Max was our wedding officiant. Max and I have a fun history. He was my first (and I must say best) roommate ever in college. Being able to be his photographer was quite special.
After the ceremony, the party began on the large wood deck. Candles flickered on tables, champagne was poured and speeches, both heartfelt and hilarious, were made. These two are truly special. Andrea, tall and gorgeous, the 2012 Miss West Virginia, with a true heart of gold and an awesome dancer. Max is charismatic, loyal, and a talented creative for Lyft. Both live and work in San Francisco.
The reception was a large dance party and ended with a special tradition. Friends and family formed a circle as the bride and groom sat in the center and all sang whole heartedly the words to Country Roads. What a finale! Of course, the weekend did end with a large brunch spread and then the newlyweds were sent off to their Hawaiian Honeymoon.
I say Congratulations often to couples and feel so deeply happy for newlyweds, but for these two I have a deeper sense of joy! I am so happy that my friend Max found such a loving woman to share his life with. Congrats to you both!
I met Massiel and Nicholas for the first time in November 2013. The three of us enjoyed a lovely fall day in Malibu Canyon taking photos in celebration of their engagement. Some people are just so right for each other that it makes you think for the moment the universe is perfectly balanced. They are both sweet, intelligent, spiritual and caring they passionately care for each other, their careers and their families.
Then I saw them on their wedding day, calm and collected and both in tuned with taking in every moment.
The day began at the Downtown Ace Hotel in Los Angeles for Massiel, together with her beautiful Mother and Sister. Massiel dressed in her Karen Willis Holmes sequin gowned, Massiel stepped out on the streets of downtown LA looking exquisite and from another era in time. The ceremony was held at the Cathedral Of Our Lady Of The Angels and the reception was at the Pico House, a historical building sitting across from the old Los Angeles Plaza on Olvera Street. Both locations were grand, beautiful and a great match for these proud Angelenos.
The couple shared their first dance to the vibrant music of the three woman mariachi band Trio Ellas, followed by a Mediterranean feast, sweet toasts and what else than cake. The dancing and laughter between Massiel and Nicholas was infectious and watching these two best friends wedding union was a great honor.
Following their wedding the couple spent a honeymoon in Istanbul and Paris. Félicitations à vous deux !

Kelly and Nick were married on a delightful fall day at the Belmond El Encanto in Santa Barbara, California.
Last December we had the pleasure of meeting Kelly and Nick for dinner and drinks, we laughed, ate pizza and chatted about their wedding and engagement. We knew we liked them right away and were excited to photograph their engagement and wedding.
The wedding was coordinated by the lovely ladies at Swoon Ca, with florals made by the Mother of the bride. The wedding ceremony was around the koi pond, followed by cocktails on the deck of the Catalina room, then dancing, toasts, dining and plenty of merrymaking downstairs in the ballroom. It was a beautiful day and we are so happy to call these two friends.
We truly wish Kelly and Nick a lifetime of happiness and great adventure!
Adam and Lorraine were married in Monterey County at the organic farm owned by Lorraine’s family. The day started with the couple getting ready with family and friends at separate beach houses in Moss Landing. As the Autumn sun was starting to set everyone headed to the farm for the ceremony which was held underneath a large oak tree. Hay bales covered in burlap and baskets of pomegranates picked from the trees lined the ceremony aisle. Lorraine and her dad made a grand entrance by entering on a very large tractor. It was awesome!
After the ceremony, the guests headed up the hill to the reception. The farm provided a beautiful setting with rows and rows of colorful flowers and pumpkins off in the distance. Drinks, dancing and a meal of fresh oysters and wood-fired pizza created a lively and fun night for all.
Congrats to the lovely couple!
When Sarah asked us to photograph her wedding we were both just crazy excited. We met Sarah last year when we photographed this bridal shower that was featured on 100 Layer Cake. We knew Sarah and James’s wedding was going to be beautiful + fun. Sarah’s floral and event planning business Floral Kitchen has such great style and ideas. We anxiously awaited for the day we left our little beach town and headed out for a weekend in the desert.
The wedding day ended up being pretty exciting. It started with a baby being born and then there was that ambulance and fire truck call during the dinner. Needless to say it was pretty memorable and as you will see full of mid-century love, great colors, gorgeous flowers, five beautiful bridesmaid dresses and a vintage Mercedes getaway car. The only thing that was missing was the Palm Springs sunshine, but it really did not matter one bit!
Sarah and James and their team of vendors did a wonderful job creating a playful and sophisticated day.
